The Pears suck this year!

We will not be ordering from Harry and David anymore. The quality is sub par and based on other reviews, they know it. I will also ask the nice people who gave us this gift not to order from them any longer as well. The pears arrived and looked as if they came from the box that was forgotten about back in the warehouse. They looked old and worse, they tasted old. I took one *** and found them to be mealy and chalky. I cut into two more and they were the same way so I just dumped the rest of them all into the trash.

Awful Customer Service and Billing Practices

I made a $198.80 debit purchase from Harry and David a few days ago. When I reviewed my bank account this morning, I saw that I had TWO pending charges for the purchase amount and immediately called them.

Not only did I have to wait on hold for about 45 minutes, but the Customer Service Representative was awful and her attitude was less-than-stellar. She was unable to answer my question as to why there were TWO pending charges when I only made one purchase and got very frustrated with me. I ended up speaking to a Supervisor who was a little nicer, but told me that Harry and David has this procedure in place and that the hold would come off once my order shipped which would be next week. Essentially, Harry and David gets to hold onto $198.80 of my money, in addition to the $198.80 I spent on gifts.

Needless to say, they lost a loyal customer today. Please be aware of this practice when giving Harry and David your business.

The same thing just happened to me. They caused my account to be overdrawn by taking double payments.

Waited for 35 minutes to talk to an outsourced customer service rep who couldn't speak or understand English. Supervisor was a little better, but still couldn't get me back my money.

Said the 2nd charge would drop off in 5 days. This is ridiculous.

For Christmas I received a "Pick Your Occasion Gift Box" which contained, among other things, 6 pears with rotten areas and covered in brown rough spots, 6 stale/hard chocolate truffles and a box of galettes which were cloying/sticky - I threw all in the garbage. The next day I sent a review to Harry&David including the above info. They have not posted it and after several email exchanges removed my name and contact info from their records. Then I sent the review to Yelp, which also refused to post it. I now have lost confidence in Yelp - if they refuse to post legitimate negative reviews, How can I trust their recommendations ? I cannot tell the person who gave me this rather expensive gift about the issues with it because she would be very upset.

Harry And David - Customer Care Review

: On December 16, 2016 I placed an order with Harry and David for a Christmas gift basket. I received an email on the 18th telling me the basket would not be delivered until the 28th so I cancelled the order that day (the 18th). The customer service rep told me the order was cancelled and I would receive a refund of $78.09. I never got a confirmation email so I called again on the 20th to find out what happened with my refund. The horrible woman who took my call told me the order had never been cancelled and she was just going to give me a refund. I accepted what she said and expected a confirmation email which again I never received. I called 2 or 3 more times, getting the same answer - my refund would be issued to PayPal shortly. On January 4th I called yet again and finally got someone who supposedly cancelled my order and was issuing me a refund. I emailed customer service to double check the status and was told that the order was first cancelled on January 4th, after I had been told repeatedly since Dec 18th that the order was cancelled and I would get a refund. The last email I received told me it would be would be 2 more weeks and I still have not received my refund.

Harry and David Employee Christmas order not EVEN shipped by promised delivery date! No body to talk to. Ordered several items for my Office Staff! Never even shipped by promised delivery date! 1-800-FLOWERS popped up after order was placed on line. I should have cancelled the ORDER THEN! 26 Year Tradition of giving my daughter flowers spoiled by 1-800-FLOWERS! Ordered a nice floral arrangement. They delivered NOTHING even close to what was promised. Substituted a dinky CHEAP Carnation arrangement for the Orchids pictured online and ordered. When we complained they offered NOTHING. Jim McCann doesn't care! Money driven versus quality driven. NEVER ORDER FROM ANY 1-800-FLOWER ASSOCIATED COMPANY.

Placed two orders totaling around $500- $600. Two people on my first order never got their gift. I also never got any sort of confirmation email so i didnt have the necessary information to place a complaint. On the second order one person recieved nothing, another received four of the same item. I also never got a confirmation email for this order, but i tried to contact customer service anyways. I was told i needed the number from my confirmation email, which i never received. Bottom line, DO NOT BUY FROM HARRY AND DAVID. This company will take your money and send you nothing. There are other companies with similar products of better quality. Disgusting, swindling, worthless, "company" I'm hesitant to call them a company because that implies some degree of competency.

Received the Tower gift December 19, 2016

Received the Tower of Treats today. My wife opened each box and we get to the base of the Tower where the delectable fruit - pears should be nestled in the box. To my surprise (as I have been a customer and given / received many a packages from this company) the 6 green pears were brown and on a scale of premium of 1-10, I would not rate these as a 1 they were so terribly brown / unedible. I asked my wife to call the customer service line which was a 20 minute wait. She was asked by the phone rep - sounded like she was not in the US - if they really were brown inside too. She was asked to cut into the fruit repeatedly as if the completely bruised fruit all the way around was not adequate. After another 5 minutes of cutting and assuring this rep that everything was not well in pear land, the coached up rep says reluctantly she will replace these pears. After the call, I tell my wife I bet this company was purchased by a PEG or Hedge fund as this company has that feel to it now. Sure enough the company was bought by 1-800 flowers which appears to be somewhere in that universe as it is clear that the former ownership / leadership is far from anywhere inside this company. I can assure you it is all about profits now and coaching phone reps to make gift receivers to settle for a subpar conditioned items. Word to the wise leaders of this company, "keep giving subpar stuff at premium prices." Instead of reading this, why don't you coach everyone in your company to understand your business yoda *** make your customers cut their fruit as they want to call in and lose 30 minutes of their time. I vote for a little more effort on your 300 page pivot spreadsheets to show off your profits! Good luck to you all. Success is coming your way!

I have been on hold now for 36 minutes to ask why this happened. My elderly mother-in-law's fruit of the month deliveries were switched to the post office without my knowledge instead of to the mailing address I gave them. I did not give them a post office box for delivery. And I know that they were initially taken to her home. I did this for Christmas for the past 2 years. The last 3 deliveries at least sat there and rotted because she doesn't go to the post office. She's 85 - that's why I sent them to her home. Worst customer service ever!!!! They said the wait would be 19 minutes and is now at 43 minutes and counting.

On to day 3 with Harry and David. Got up very early to call Customer svc and get thru...and did!

Actually got to speak again to supervisor Cindy. That's where the fun ends.

Cindy tells me they know now that they double charged me.

She still doesn't understand they'...

For 2 days and multiple calls and emails, and conversations with customer rep Cheryl and supervisor Cindy, I still have been double billed for one order and can't get H & D to refund. Impossible to reach by phone without 25+ min wait.

After waiting 9 min a second time I was cut off. Emails are not being answered. It's an on-going nightmare. I've personally gone to my bank where both a debit and credit card are issued to me.

Ms. Blakeney at the bank confirms both charges to my account. For her to refuse payment will take 30 days. For H & D to refund my money takes a week.

If only I could get them.

Folks, steer clear of Harry and David. They put the Grinch in the season.

They did remove the extra hold against my checking account and did give me a full refund for my order that I cancelled. They sent me a complimentary gift box for all of my trouble.

Same thing happened to me. My checking account for my debit card was showing 2 different charges pending for the same amount. Then the next day, it showed that one of the charges had been charged against my account. I called and they said that the remaining pending charge was a pre-authorization and would drop off after 5 days, even though they have already gotten their money. I told them that was not acceptable and since they had not shipped my order, I cancelled it and had them close my account. I WILL NEVER USE THEM AGAIN. This double billing scam should be illegal. BUYER BEWARE. I called 3 times today to get it cancelled and never got a cancelled confirmation e-mail even though they said that they sent it. This reduced my available balance in my checking account by $173 for several days, even after they were paid their $173. This put a stop to my Christmas gift buying. I will never forget this. I used them last year and didn't have this problem. I don't know what has changed. They promised a full refund but I don't believe them.

Harry And David - Classic Favorites Gift Basket Review

We received a Harry and David gift from our daughter who lives in Missouri-we live in Colorado. I was thrilled because I enjoyed the one we received last year and we're retired seniors and don't need most gifts but we did enjoy a similar gift she sent us last year.

The beautiful pears must have frozen during shipment and receipt were ruined.

I sent pears to people in Florida and had the same experience. It is Harry and David simply boxing up damaged pears and shopping them. I think the company was bought and now the new owners are riding on the coat tails of the old company's hard work.

Free offer was a lie

I received an email from Cheryl's cookies saying that, as a member of their "Celebrations Rewards" program, I could receive a box (presumably small) of Royal Riviera pears for the cost of shipping ($7.99). There was no qualification as to how many would be sold or if there was any time limit or expiration date.

I clicked on the email as soon as I saw it, which may have been a couple hours after it was sent and was told there were no more. I contacted customer service and ending up having to deal with a supervisor (Chloe). So much for customer service as she could offer no solution other than to apologize (gee, sorry, that means a whole lot to me--sarcasm) to say they were sold out. I asked if H & D were still selling the pears and was told they were.

But not that particular box.

As far as I'm concerned, though they sell quality stuff, Harry & David's word is worthless to me and I will no longer do business with them or buy from any of their related companies. For a small box of fruit--it could have been apples or whatever was in season as a substitute, this never would have happened.

What disappointing experience! Ordered a tower of snacks on December 20th to be delivered to my parents on the 23rd. Needed to be there so they could share it with guests. Package never showed. Harry and David said sorry, it's back ordered. Never bothered to tell us until we called. On the 23rd, after I called, they sent my parents an apology email stating the package had been shipped and will arrive shortly. Promised to deliver it by the 29th for New Years. On the 29th the package never showed. Called them again, they said sorry never shipped it but it'll show up on January 6th. Harry and David never communicated there would be a delay at any time until I called after promised delivery dates. I would have been happy to order something else to ensure it arrived on time. Yesterday I cancelled the order. If anyone can recommend a reliable food gift company please share it with me. Not going to risk being embarrassed by Harry and David again! Never got a full refund, had to call and give them a first grade math lesson

Orders may not arrive on time....

I ordered for next day delivery and accepted the additional charge of $30.00 so that my customer would get their gift on time. However, they did not have the gift in-stock (and there was no way to know that ) which meant that they were never going to deliver my gift on my selected delivery date.

In fact, they were going to send the gift within 10 days of the order which is completely unacceptable. When I called on the date of my delivery to see when my gift was supposed to arrive, they then told me the facts regarding the status of my order which was that it was going to arrive to the customer within 10 days of the ordered placed rather than on the date I had selected. I canceled my order and with total aggravation. Obviously, when someone makes an order for a particular date (due to a special occasion) the next best option will never be within 10 days of that date.

Are they crazy? This was by far the most frustrating gift ordering experiences that I have ever had.

Watch out with these guys! Very sketch!!

my wife ordered a gift for me and it arrived 1 week prior then scheduled. I made sure to show all our christmas guests the rotting pears.

However i did get a letter apologizing for their mistake but they would not do anything else for us. Will never use again.

I placed an order on November 29, 2016 for their "Christmas Peaches" online. The order confirmation came through my email and stated they would be delivered on or about December 21. My bank account was charged on December 14, still no peaches. When I go into the website to try and track order, it tells me their is no record of my order. Here it is, December 27th and still no peaches, I can't even imagine if they did arrive what kind of shape they would be in. I emailed them this morning to get a refund, I guess I will start the phone calling later today. It is quite disgusting that such a large company can get away with this, never again will they ever get a cent from me!!!!!
