New ReviewerI am glad to report that after sending another email with a link with to this review, Harry & David finally returned the shipping fee.
I will mark this as resolved, just be aware the quality of Harry & David pears is no longer what it once was and you might have to fight to get your shipping fee returned.
Harry and David has gone down hill and I will never order from them again. I recently d a box of "Royal Riviera Pears".
These are NOT the Royal Riviera Pears they used to sell. These are tiny, bruised, dented and horrible looking. I have attached photos which show just how awful these pears look. After waiting on hold for 45 minutes, I will told they would only refund the cost of the pears and not the shipping which I think is ridiculous since what they sent me was not what I ordered.
I use to receive the Royal Riviera at Christmas as a gift so I know what they are supposed to look like. They looked like the promo photos from the website, not the mess I received. Looks aren't everything of course, but these pears taste terrible too.
Bottom line: Terrible product and horrible customer service. Avoid at all costs.
Reason of review: Bad quality.
Monetary Loss: $10.
Preferred solution: Full refund.
Harry And David Cons: Quality was sickening.

Go to the bottom of the web page, you will find their guarantee, they are very committed to it. If Customer Service does not satisfy then ask to be transferred to Order Support.
Blast them on social Media- Twitter/ Instagram/ Pinterest!!
That's what I have had to BC companies- want to what they want even though its states in their contract online then want to go back on it- then blast them on Social Media! They tend to snap to.
Wow, gross- what bad quality control on their part. I'd be embarrassed to present that.
H&D give your money back and a free upgrade basket with Golden pears.
I had an large and expensive Passover basket for our family that was disturbing and not packed correctly and rotten foodโ and they replaced and received an dollar amount gift card.
I don't order from them anymore- I find local or other fruit websites.
Omg hahahaha. I am really sorry for laughing, I am, but I am actually laughing out loud right now.
H&D has gone down the toilet. 2 years running I've both sent and received garbage, so I am done with them. But I am laughing because these are the nicest H&D pears I've seen in years. You got a great box!
Yes, hahahahaha this pitiful lot of pears is better than anything I've given or received lately. How pathetic on their part!
I'm glad you got a laugh, and I totally agree with you. How truly sad the quality has become so poor. I remember just how delicious their pears once were.
Ewe...and you shouldn't have had to pay anything. Heck they should have given you a discount on another order.
This is really gross. I think they sent out garbage so they didn't have to pay to dispose of it. They didn't lose much....up front. Down the road they lost customers.
I have ordered from them for gifts to my grandma and others every year. NOT THIS YEAR...GROSS !!
What's wrong with them? Are you going to eat them or look at them?
They are fruit, that come off a tree.
The store can not control how mother nature grows something. Peel it and eat it.
Lady Scot,
Clearly you did not read my entire review:
"Looks aren't everything of course, but these pears taste terrible too."
I am very aware that fruit grows off trees. Growers do indeed have certain controls over the quality of their fruit.
Having served as a volunteer at several farms I know this first hand.
I paid a premium price for an inferior product. Again, my point was these are not the same quality of pears Harry & David once use to sell. This seems to coincide with them being bought out a few years ago.
Often times, a company is bought out and the quality of the product declines.
May I suggest you fully read an entire review before handing out worthless advice. Thanks.
Call back I worked there seasonal before it's company policy to refund shipping too!
Thanks for you for your suggestion. It seems like Harry & David has changed their policy.
After calling, emailing and speaking with a supervisor, I was told they were absolutely unwilling to refund the shipping. I might give it one more try, but hopefully, I have at least warned some potential customers about the "new" Harry & David in terms of product quality and customer service. I know I will never purchase from them again.
Thanks again though for your suggestion. I appreciate it.
May I suggest returning for a refund instead of whining online to a website that the retailer will never see? Here is a thought: contact the company you bought them from and tell them.
Gasp! Holy cow!
Again, you clearly are unwilling to actually read what I posted. I have already contacted the company multiple times.
My reason for posting here is to make potential customers aware of an inferior product and a lack of customer service from the company.
Clearly, you are a snarky troll so thanks again for more of your worthless advice.
This dude obviously owns nothing nice. This type of fruit is essentially a luxury item and as such, there are certain standards that need to be met.
Harry and David advertise these fruits as needing to maintain a certain standard and that's what's paid for. It doesn't matter if some rat somewhere would eat it. A normal consumer would not. I've always wanted to try these.
Thanks for the post. Now I won't.
And what if I had given these as a gift? That would be extremely embarassing.
Thanks for your response. I'm glad to have been of help.
It truly is a shame about Harry & David because before they were bought out, the quality of their pears were outstanding.
I noticed a few other complaints exactly like mine so unfortunately this is not an isolated event. Thanks again for your response.
